The crime rate is one of the lowest in the region and indeed the entire world, and visitors can expect to enjoy a visit free from concerns and worry about their safety.
EMU CCTV Camera System
The EMU campus has a 24 hours security service in operation, and a CCTV camera system in operation across the campus. Throughout the summer, assistants are employed to look after the needs of all visiting students around the clock, and the International Office staff and teachers check daily on students' welfare. Please be advised that attendance at classes is compulsory, and any absence without explanation will be immediately followed up. This is to ensure the safety at all times of all our visitors.
EMU Health Centre
All summer school students are entitled to free use of the EMU Health Centre in the case of minor injuries or illnesses. The Famagusta state hospital is also just outside the EMU campus.
Individual Accident Insurance: All participant can be issued an individual accident insurance with an extra charge of $10.
Younger Learners
EMU has a policy of requiring group leaders to travel with younger learner groups and to be in charge of their welfare at all times. In all cases, EMU makes sure that younger learners are accompanied by responsible adults at all times.
Guidelines for Safety
Students are also given thorough orientation on arrival regarding all aspects of their welfare whilst in Northern Cyprus. In particular, we emphasize that the temperature in summer can be extremely high, and advise students to bring or purchase sun protection cream and insect repellant; to keep exposure to the sun limited during the afternoon period, and to stay well-hydrated at all times. Driving is on the left-hand side, and students from countries where driving is on the right are advised to take special care in this regard.
